The New Fence !

Wow, isn't the first section of our new fencing looking amazing? We truly appreciate Enovert Community Trust for believing in us and supporting our funding bid. A huge thank you also goes to JFB Gates & Railings Ltd for the fantastic work, they've done a wonderful job. We’re so excited to see it all come together!
Reaching this milestone has taken a lot of time, and it wouldn't have been possible without the incredible efforts of everyone working behind the scenes. A heartfelt thank you to all who have helped in any way to make this happen. We’re so grateful for your support!

Taylor Wimpey helps out arson-hit Himley Hall Sailing Club

HIMLEY Hall Sailing Club has received a boost from Taylor Wimpey as it looks to rebuild after an arson attack.

The housebuilder has donated a new bench to replace the original seating space which, alongside the club's hut and decking, was destroyed in a fire in December 2023.

As well as replacing the bench, Taylor Wimpey has also funded a new commemorative plaque to replace the original sign which was dedicated to the memory of David and Mary Harris, two dedicated members of the sailing club.

Alan Dean, club member and commodore at Himley Hall Sailing Club, said: “We were delighted when Taylor Wimpey approached us to help with our rebuild.

"It’s been a tough few months after being forced to start from near enough scratch, but their contribution has enabled us to take one step closer to reopening the hut again for our members.
"On behalf of everyone at the club, I’d like to thank them for their kind support.”

A big thank you to GT Scaffolding for sponsoring our recent project.

With the scaffold parts donated by GT Scaffolding we have been able to create a storage rack for the our Toppers.

This will make our training / scouts sessions a lot easier !

Replacing our Starters Hut - Arson Attack

Picture

Early in the morning of Monday 11th December 2023 our club was hit with a devasting blow when arsonists burnt our starter's hut and sailing equipment store to the ground. The new decking which had been in place for less than two years and was enjoyed by walkers, bird watchers, fishermen as well as club members was completely destroyed.

In addition to the loss of the building and decking, we also lost all of our sailing, racing and safety equipment including first aid boxes, flags, buoys, anchors, oars, safety bags and the solar powered lighting system. Items of great sentimental value, including the plaque dedicated to Dorothy & Mike Willetts two of our founder members who left a legacy to the club that funded the decking and a bench in memory of Mary & David Harris who ran our training team for many years were also destroyed.

This is just the latest setback to hit our club since it started to return to normal from the lengthy shutdowns that meant that we could not sail for several months. In the last two years we have suffered a vandalism attack that damaged 14 dinghies in our boat park, this was followed by the theft of our safety boat and then the steel doors to our engine store were cut to pieces and both of our engines for our safety boats were stolen.

While the hut and some of the equipment are insured, the decking is not and the insurances excesses mean that we are facing a costly rebuilding bill.

Any help that you can give would be very much appreciated.

Dingy Park Fencing / Security

Picture
In the last two years we have suffered a vandalism attack that damaged 14 dinghies in our boat park, this was followed by the theft of our safety boat.

We have now received approval to erect a permanent fence around the dinghy park (allowing the removal of the temporary heras fence) providing required security to keep the boats safe.

Any donation towards the 30k cost to install the fence would be greatly received.

14 dinghies (some belonging to the club and some belonging to our members) were vandalised in July 2022
